If she could stop time or make it go backwards even, she would take back what she said to her mother. She didn’t mean to shoot her mouth off like that. It’s just that ever since Carly’s parents broke up she took any opportunity to let out her anger, which usually meant yelling at her mother.

So there she was sitting on her bed thinking about the argument that had just taken place when a voice at the back of her mind told her that there was an easy way out of this big mess. She was wondering if she should run away and then Carly convinced herself that it was a brilliant idea and she started packing her bags.

In the morning Carly got up extra early and got dressed super quick and snuck down to the kitchen. She thought her plan had succeeded until she saw her mother sitting at the kitchen table staring into space.

Carly hesitated and turned to run back down the hallway when the hallway carpet tripped her up as if it wanted her to get caught. She stood up getting ready to make an excuse when she realised that her mother hadn’t moved from that position. Carly stood up right and waved her hand in front of her mother’s face. When her mother remained in a trance, she left quietly.

It has been 3 hours since Carly ran away and she has been wandering around the streets looking to see if she could remember the way to her best friends’ house but nothing rang a bell. Ever since she moved out of her dad’s house with her mum she was too depressed to leave the house so she didn’t know the streets properly.

It was coming night time and Carly only had the street lights to guide her around the lonely streets. Soon she had given up hope and sat on the gutter thinking what to do next when an old lady bent down to her size. Carly was wondering whether the old lady was going to help her but instead she just tossed a 2 dollar coin on the ground in front of her. Carly was outraged that some lady thought she was a homeless person just because she was sitting down.

Even though she was angry at the old woman’s remark she took the money any way. She stood up again because she didn’t want people to get the wrong idea. She peered into a fish & chips shop window and was staring with hunger. It took 2 seconds for Carly to remember that she was not a homeless person.

Carly fumbled around in her backpack and found her wallet. She walked inside the shop and bought a drink and some spring rolls. After Carly had eaten she was more energetic and optimistic. She kept telling herself “I am free now I can do whatever I want” but no matter how many times she repeated it she still felt home sick.

                       1 month later

Carly had only just realised that she had been on the street for nearly a month now, after she looked on a calendar in a pizza shop. It was becoming night time, Carly’s worst part of the day. She was walking into a pizza shop when some drunk teenager yelled “HOBO!!” Carly just turned and walked in the shop as if nothing had happened. She ordered a small pizza. She was about to pay when she realised there was no money in her wallet. Carly asked the server “ummmmmmm do you keep tabs here?” but the lady just put the pizza back in the oven and told her to leave.

Soon Carly gave up on asking for free food and slumped back to her cardboard box. The next morning she was sitting outside a Laundromat collecting donations when a girl around the age of 19 came down next to her and to Carly’s surprise she said “hey you’re the girl in the lost daughter ads. Let me take you home.” Carly hesitated but then she left with the girl.

When she was approaching her house she was having second thoughts but the voice in her head was urging her to go forward. She opened the door and was shocked to see her mother with her hand on her fathers lap. Her mother explained that losing Carly had brought them back together. She was hugging her father.

Her life had been put back together again like a jigsaw puzzle, she was finally happy.

I don’t know about anybody else but if anyone asked me why I was still going to Hawkesdale College then I would have to tell them that at Hawkesdale College you get noticed for who you are.

The reason I come to school every day is because this school makes me feel accepted and glad to be learning here, with the teachers so understanding that you can tell them your problems.

Hawkesdale is a small town as well so if you live near-by and you walking home then some of the teachers will even help you and some of the smaller children across the road to prevent car accidents.

Listen to what I tell you, you may think that teachers are mean and annoying but you don’t see that they are actually trying to help you.

Our teachers at Hawkesdale College really do care; they will never let you get passed them with a sad face because they want your time at Hawkesdale to be as enjoyable as possible.

Us students are lucky enough to go to camps and excursions. Some \ other students don’t get that kind of opportunity. The camp we went to this year was Roses Gap and all of us students had a lot of fun thanks to our teachers here at Hawkesdale.

Its not only our teachers that are nice it is also our students. The students at this school are hard-working and understanding. Take it from me because I am a student at this school myself and in my opinion, this school is great.

If you are having trouble at school or home or any where you can always sit down and have a chat to our school counsellors who are free to help you with any of your problems and keep it in confidence if you want them to.

Our school’s principal is always upgrading our learning equipment so that we can have a better education, we have had our tennis court turfed so no-one gets hurt and even the computers are getting upgrades.

So, in my opinion, my family and I are really happy with our decision to stay at Hawkesdale P12 College and I know that you will be happy if you decide to come to our school too.

Roses Gap was our camp this year,

we all had a lot of fun and the activities were awesome the giant swing made me scared but I made it all the way to the top.

The giant swing is a harness pulled up the top of a wooden post by a group of people and then when you are up the top of the giant swing the people down the bottom call out a countdown and thats the scary part when you have to pull a really scary tiny rope and fly down.

When you drop you dont think that you are going to swing instead you think that you are going to splat on the ground but you dont.

The food was great once we had burgers and they tasted better than mcdonalds, I don’t know how they make that food so nice but I want the recipe.

we also did the following activities, canoing, night walking, swimming, raft making, archery, flying fox, vertical playhouse, giant swing, and we also had spare time.

This is my story about roses gap.

Tears formed in the corner of my eyes and trickled slowly down my cheeks as I watched my dad drive far away down the icy roads. I watched him leaving until he was as small as a speck and then I just sat on the dewy grass.

It didn’t even matter that the grass was wet nothing mattered anymore now that dad is gone nothing will ever be the same. In soggy pants, I walked as slowly as I could into the kitchen where mum was still sitting frozen at the kitchen table.

She took one look at me and broke down into tears. It’s been one hour since dad left and the house has already fallen apart without him Thomas, my little brother, is 5 and doesn’t quite understand what has just happened, he is just upset because dad always takes him on rides wherever he goes.

Mum has locked herself in her room and Thomas is feeding his pet rabbit winky. I knocked on mum’s door but she didn’t reply so I knocked once more and said that I was going for a walk.

I pushed the front door open and walked as fast as I could and somehow I ended up at the park. The park is where I, Thomas and my father used to play when mum was fussing over cleaning the so-called messy house.

Just seeing the park made me have to dry my eyes so almost instantly I collapsed onto one of the rickety swings and started to rock all so gently and slowly rocking and softly crying I fell asleep.

I was dreaming a beautiful dream about a secret island where no one was ever sad or angry, and the whoosh of the ocean was ever so soothing and slowly I was drifting in it. Whoosh, whoosh, “aaagh!” Whoosh, whoosh, “aaagh!” Whoosh, whoosh, “AAAGH!”

As soon as I heard a scream I woke in a flash, I was so shocked that I nearly fell off the swing, as soon as I could see I looked up at who was screaming and I realised that it was just a little kid she looked at me for a while and then she took a big breath ready to scream.

“MUMMY THE MEAN GIRL WONT GET OFF THE SWING”The scream was ear piercing and I stared in shock that such a little girl could let out such an unnatural scream. As I was sitting there dumbstruck a lady that was very tall came a started babbling on and on about thinking about little kids before yourself.

I was still shocked from being awoken so abruptly but I slowly slumped of the swing and dragged my feet over to the wooden seat it felt like I couldn’t take another step but I acted automatically, with the lady still glaring at me I didn’t feel welcome so I wandered off somewhere else.

I wandered so far for so long looking at my feet that I didn’t see that I was in the bustling market and there was a lot people that were trying to dodge me, when I looked up for the first time an old lady in front of me jumped in fright.I looked at the old lady and apologised. I felt so useless.
